Privacy Policy

VI Guide & Map is an unofficial, fan-made companion app. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your data.

Data we collect

The app has no accounts and no sign-in, and we never ask you for your name, email address, phone number, or contacts. We do use two Google services that collect limited data automatically:

• Google AdMob serves the advertisements shown in the app. AdMob collects a device advertising identifier along with technical data such as your approximate location (derived from IP address), device model, and how you interact with ads, and uses it to select and measure ads.
• Google Analytics for Firebase records anonymous usage events — which screens are opened and which features are used — so we can understand what to improve. It is tied to an app instance identifier, not to your identity.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers the news notifications you can opt into. It uses a device registration token, which we do not link to you.

We do not sell your data, and we do not receive any personally identifying information from these services ourselves. Their handling of data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Your choices

You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads on Android), which prevents ads from being personalised. Notifications are off until you opt in, and can be turned off again from the app's Settings screen or your system settings.

Data stored on your device

The app saves a copy of its content (characters, vehicles, locations, news and images) to local storage so it works offline. This data stays on your device and is never sent anywhere. Uninstalling the app removes it.

Network connections

When online, the app requests content updates from its own hosted content database, and loads images from third-party fan sites that host them. These requests carry no identifying information beyond what any web request necessarily includes, such as your IP address, which we do not log or retain.

Opening an external link — for example the official Rockstar Games website or Newswire — loads that site inside an in-app browser. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which we do not control.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app carries advertising, we ask that it be used by those aged 13 and over.

Permissions

The app requests internet access, used to refresh content, load images and serve ads. On Android 13 and later it also asks for notification permission, but only when you choose to turn news alerts on — declining leaves the rest of the app fully usable. It does not request location, camera, microphone, contacts, or storage permissions.

Not affiliated with Rockstar Games

This app is an independent fan project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored, or approved by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. Grand Theft Auto and all related marks are the property of their respective owners.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will ship with a new release of the app and be published at this same address.
